Former CP SD40-2s acquired in 2006
from National Railway Equipment.
All units supplied by GE Rail
Services of San Luis Potosi, Mexico between April 2003 and December 2003,
originally to total 60 units, but later reduced to 55.
Most of the units were first sent to Mid America car to correct some quality
control issues.
About 31 of the cores to be used in the rebuild program were ex-SP SD40Rs, but
these were replaced with more ex-UP SD40-2s
due to the SD40Rs not complying with IC&E's specs on cores to be used in the rebuild program.
ICE 6401:1, 6407:1 and 6415:1 were in transit, but never delivered. The 6401:1
was rejected by the IC&E at Mid-America Car, Kansas City, MO, and
re-lettered GECX. 6407:1 & 6415:1 were stopped in route and
re-lettered GECX at Birmingham Rail & Locomotive.
GECX 6401:1 was first leased to FEC, and now all three (6401:1, 6407:1 &
6415:1) are leased to BHP Iron Ore in Australia.
ICE 6400, 6402 & 6410 were first to enter service on 4/26/2003.
ICE 6427 & 6445 were the first IC&E engines to receive city names in
late June 2005.

ICE 231 and 232 have been sold to National Railway Equipment (NREX) in late March 2005.
ICE 201-203, 205, 210, 218, 220-224, 230 were retired February 2007. All
scrapped at Jabco in March 2007.
ICE 208 re-lettered on
2/13/2003. ICE 209 re-lettered on 4/21/2003. ICE 230 & ICE 233 re-lettered
on 6/5/2003.
ICE 209, 206 & 208 rebuilt in 2007 and renumbered ICE
6100-6102 respectively.

FURX 7206 involved in crossing
accident with fuel truck and destroyed by fire on August, 1, 2002 at Clear Lake,
IA. Stored at Mason City, IA.
FURX 8110 was also involved in the crossing accident at Clear Lake, IA. It was
sent to Mid America Car and repainted in Cascade green.
FURX 7222, 7282, 8110, 8125, 8129 were returned to lessor 4/24/03.
FURX 7242, 7248, 7252, 7928, 7930 were returned to lessor 4/28/03.
Supplied by GE Capital because of
delivery problems with IC&E's rebuilt SD40-2s starting in September 2003.
All were returned by December 2003.
